The life of Vatatzis gets even more extraordinary after his travels. In 1727 he meets Nader Shah in Persia. A few years later, Nader Shah is the ruler of Persia with the strongest military in Asia (if not the world). Vatatzis somehow manages to reach a high position within his court.
Vatatzis writes Nader Shah’s biography, Persica, which is also a History of Persia covering 1694-1747. It is such an important source that provides unique evidence in some cases. It has not been studied a lot yet, after all it is in Greek. I do not analyse Persica in my dissertation. It would take about three years and life is too short to apply for academic funding.
